Q: "So, can you tell me what item you have chosen to talk about today?"
A: "I've chosen my ring which was brought for me as a gift by my boyfriend. It's made of gold, or at least that's what he told me, and it has the sign of Sagittarius, which is my star sign."
Q: "What can you tell me about the time you received this gift? Do you remember the occasion?"
A: "Yeah, for sure. It was Christmas and I was opening my stocking, because I still do stockings with just my close family, and I thought I was done opening everything so I tossed my seemingly empty stocking to the side when my mum asked if there was anything still in the stocking. I said I didn't think there was, but I went over to check and inside was a small white box. I asked her who it was from and she said it was from my boyfriend, and I opened it and inside was a small gold ring with the centaur engraved onto the face. I became very emotional, it was the nicest gift I had ever received."
Q: "Do star signs mean a lot to you?"
A: "Well I don't strictly believe in them, like the powers and traits associated with them, but they're interesting I guess, and my boyfriend and I like to do them for fun sometimes. It was more that it was the first big gift he ever bought me; obviously, he'd bought me dinner and stuff but this was his first, like, gift gift. I think it means so much, also, because of the way I got it. With my family, on Christmas, it was all just very special."
It was clear to me, whilst interviewing this person, that the gift of the ring was incredibly meaningful to them. I would have filmed the interview, but they did not want to be on camera so I transcribed it instead, because I felt their story was special and fairly unique.
I could tell that they had become very attached to the ring. A number of times whilst conducting the interview, I noticed they were playing with their ring. It must feel like a part of them if they have developed nervous tics based around the object.
