For this task, I visited The Science Museum in London. In this museum, they had a lot of information in their exhibits regarding the human body and human physiology in general. I felt this most closely related to the topic of my documentary. As the documentary that I plan to produce is centred around the subject's body and the extent to which he is willing to push the constraints of his body with regards to exercise and increasing his muscle mass significantly. It was interesting, therefore, to learn more about the human body, muscle composition within the human body and a bit about the limits of human endurance. I hope to further explore the limits of human exertion and endurance through the research involved with creating my documentary.
I felt that the way The Science Museum dealt with its representations of human anatomy and physiology, by using real samples of human remains. This, I felt, was fairly disturbing. Therefore, it has made me acutely aware of the importance of sensitivity when exploring the human body as a subject. It would be irresponsible of me, as a filmmaker, to explore, as I believe The Science Museum has done, the human body and its limits in a purely academic way. It is important, on this deeply personal subject, to take into account the mental health and general psychologically challenging aspect of the study and the documentary.
